Vehicle Decontamination
Vehicle decontamination is for cars, department squad cars, ambulances, and similar vehicles after blood, other biological fluids, or a death. A vehicle is a small space with padding, electronics, and metal that each hold contamination differently. The owner or the department remains responsible for the vehicle. We refer the job to an independent company.
Why a professional company
Professional cleanup is recommended because blood and other body fluids can carry pathogens. OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030, governs workers who handle blood on the job. That standard applies to the employer's workers. It is one reason this work belongs with a company that trains its own people, not with family members using household products.
What partner companies typically do
Partners typically assess the cab and cargo area, remove padding that cannot be cleaned, disinfect what remains, and discuss odor. They coordinate pickup with the vehicle owner. They do not promise that every electronic component will be saved.
What to do right now
- Leave the vehicle closed and parked.
- Do not let others sit in it.
- If police still have the vehicle, wait until it is released.
- Tell the partner the vehicle type and where it can be reached.
Some property insurance policies may cover part of biohazard cleanup; many don't, and coverage depends on your policy. Check with your insurer. Insurance and self-pay jobs are accepted. Top Clean Bio is not an insurer, adjuster, or public adjuster and does not handle or negotiate claims.
